We hope a warm cup and a biscuit are at hand—it’s our pleasure to reveal the UK Rework for Euro Truck Simulator 2. Below you’ll find an early look at the team’s plans and progress. Please note that many images show work-in-progress areas and are not final.

UK Project Revamp

If you caught our “Proper Cup of Tea” teaser, you might have guessed what was coming—between the Yorkshire Tea reference and the unmistakably British narration, the hint was there.

Important: This rework is in its early stages. Several screenshots below depict incomplete areas and ongoing development.

The United Kingdom rework brings a long-overdue refresh to one of the original regions in Euro Truck Simulator 2. To learn more about the scope and team behind this effort, we spoke with Abbe, the lead on the UK Rework.

“Right now, there are over twenty map designers working on the early stages of the UK Rework,” Abbe explains. “Beyond the map team, our research, assets, road team and programmers are all contributing.” The effort pulls together many disciplines across SCS Software to create what promises to be one of our most ambitious reworks yet.

Developer team working on map

The community has long requested a UK update, and the team has had it on their roadmap for some time. “We’ve had the UK rework in mind since around the period I was working on the Austria rework,” Abbe says, “but other priorities like Benelux needed attention first.”

Abbe also describes this as something of a personal passion project: “I’ve always wanted to tackle the UK rework. I’m fascinated by British history—from the Age of Sail to the War of the Roses—and even enjoy naval novels like Hornblower and the Aubrey & Maturin series. That passion definitely feeds into the project.”

Because the original UK map is older and the real-world landscape has changed, the team decided to rebuild the region from the ground up. That choice brings a few technical and design challenges. “The UK was created at a different scale compared to mainland Europe,” Abbe explains. “We’re standardising the scale so it matches the rest of the game. That means packing more detail into a smaller footprint, which is technically demanding. Left-hand driving adds another layer of complexity, and personally I have to resist adding too many niche elements I adore about the UK.”

Abbe is keeping many additions a surprise, but confirmed a few highlights: “Expect iconic landmarks such as Stonehenge, and the city of Leeds will be added to the map. We’re designing with the upcoming Coaches DLC in mind, so some tourist destinations may appear. We’re also expanding coverage across Scotland, and the new Eurotunnel model will look fantastic.”

“I hope the community appreciates our vision for the UK,” Abbe says. “There will inevitably be compromises as we rebuild the region, and the work will take time. Please be patient—development is at an early stage. I’m excited for future developer diaries where we can dive deeper into the details and show progress.”
