Ubisoft Hits Major Reset: Cancels Six Games, Delays Seven, and Closes Two Studios Amid Sweeping Cost Cuts

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood Hero

Ubisoft has announced a comprehensive “major reset” affecting its organizational structure, operational workflows, and entire gaming portfolio. This radical transformation follows a string of underwhelming commercial performances and a significant decline in the company’s market valuation over recent years.

As part of this strategic pivot, the publisher has officially canceled six projects currently in development. Highlighting these casualties is the long-suffering Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, which has faced numerous hurdles since its initial reveal.

Beyond the cancellations, Ubisoft is extending production timelines for seven additional titles to ensure they meet quality standards. This includes a major unannounced game originally slated for fiscal year 2026, now shifted to 2027. According to industry insider Jason Schreier, this delayed lineup likely includes the much-discussed Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag remake.

The restructuring has also led to the closure of two development studios, including Ubisoft Halifax. To streamline future output, the company is consolidating its global production teams into five “Creative Houses,” each dedicated to specific franchises and genres. For fans concerned about the status of Beyond Good & Evil 2, the project remains active, currently listed under the oversight of Creative House 4.

Despite the cutbacks, Ubisoft remains committed to new ventures, confirming that four original IPs are currently in active development, including the recently titled March of Giants.

“These collective measures represent a definitive turning point for Ubisoft,” stated founder and CEO Yves Guillemot. “They reflect our absolute resolve to tackle current industry challenges head-on and reshape our organization for sustainable, long-term success.”

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
