To mark the Xbox 360 launch anniversary, the best‑selling games in the U.S. were revealed — Call of Duty takes seven top spots

The Xbox 360 launched in North America on November 22, 2005, and to mark the console’s 20th anniversary analysts have released a ranking of its best-selling games.

Market research firm Circana (formerly NPD) published a list of the Xbox 360’s top-selling games in the United States of all time.

The Call of Duty franchise dominates the chart: seven entries make the top 20, with four occupying places in the top five. Leading in both revenue and copies sold is Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

Call of Duty: Black Ops ranks second, Modern Warfare 3 sits third, Modern Warfare 2 is fifth, and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare appears in seventh. Call of Duty: Ghosts rounds out the top ten at ninth, while World at War lands at 13th.

Among Xbox exclusives, Halo 3 performs best, claiming fourth place. Halo: Reach is eighth, and Halo 4 is tenth.

The Gears of War series is represented by two entries: the original Gears of War is 19th, and Gears of War 3 closes out the top 20. Gears of War 2 did not make the list.

Rockstar’s titles also appear: Grand Theft Auto V sits sixth (released shortly before the Xbox One), GTA IV is 14th, and Red Dead Redemption ranks 18th.

The list also includes The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (12th), Minecraft (15th), and Battlefield 3 (17th).

Circana analyst Mat Piscatella also noted that 42.7 million Xbox 360 consoles have been sold in the U.S., and the best-selling accessory was the Xbox 360 Headset, with combined sales exceeding 11.4 million units.
