Following the monumental success of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios is returning to the roots that defined their legacy: the Divinity franchise. While specific details regarding the next installment remain largely under wraps—aside from the gritty, high-stakes tone suggested by early teasers—studio founder Swen Vincke has offered a tantalizing glimpse into how the adventure might conclude.
The revelation occurred during a recent livestream where Larian developers revisited Divinity: Original Sin 2. When a fan pressed for details about the upcoming game’s ending, Vincke initially joked, “I could say it ends with the credits… that would be the easy answer.” However, he quickly turned the floor over to the community, promising to confirm if any fan theories hit close to the mark.

Crucially, Vincke was bound by a “vow of honesty” dictated by a d20 roll made at the start of the session. He rolled a 19—a near-perfect Persuasion check—leaving him with almost no room to deflect or deceive.
“Actually, quite a few of you are on the right track,” Vincke admitted. “It concludes with the credits, and it certainly changes based on your choices… but here is a genuine scoop for the chat: it ends with an absolute inferno. A lot of fire, obviously.”
Given the fiery aesthetic of the initial reveal, an explosive finale seems fitting. Original Sin 2 was celebrated for its multi-faceted endings that reflected player morality and tactical decisions; it appears the next chapter will follow suit. While Vincke added a playful “perhaps” at the very end to account for that missing point on his dice roll, it’s clear that pyromancy and high-stakes destruction will play a central role in the climax of the new Divinity.
As Larian continues to champion the “unsung heroes” of game development, the anticipation for their next CRPG masterpiece continues to grow, promising a world where player agency—and apparently a lot of fire—shape the fate of the realms.
