Studio behind 007: First Light: “We didn’t want to create a Superman from day one” about its fresh-faced James Bond — “It’s not very relatable”

007: First Light

Narrative and cinematic director Martin Emborg pointed to 1962’s Dr. No as an example of a Bond who already seems unsurprised by life’s excesses. Emborg argued that opening with a fully formed, untouchable Bond is entertaining wish-fulfillment, but it’s less relatable than watching someone become that figure.

That said, First Light’s Bond will still be lethal in action — the gameplay reveal showed him landing consecutive headshots and escaping a falling plane with barely a scratch — but he won’t be so seasoned that every mission feels routine.

The game is scheduled to release for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 on March 27, 2026.

The team says 007: First Light only worked as an origin story — it wasn’t about polishing a perfect Pierce Brosnan likeness, but about exploring why Bond became the man he is.
