Eric Barone, the creator of Stardew Valley, has addressed the technical hurdles surrounding the game’s surprise launch on the Nintendo Switch 2.
He confirmed the existence of critical bugs and stated that remedial patches are already in development. This admission follows a surge of reports on Reddit and social media regarding game-breaking glitches and frequent multiplayer disconnects.
In a public statement, Barone noted:
I am fully aware of the issues impacting the newly released Nintendo Switch 2 version. I take complete responsibility for these errors, and we are working to resolve them as quickly as possible.
One particularly severe bug involves moss-based crafting: using moss currently triggers an unintended inventory purge, deleting unrelated items such as torches, seaweed, geodes, rare collectibles, and even dinosaur eggs. Players are strongly advised to avoid moss-related recipes until the hotfix is deployed.
Furthermore, many users have reported that online cooperative play is completely non-functional. While local split-screen remains playable, it is reportedly marred by significant control latency. Adding to the frustration is the “Switch 2 Upgrade Pack”—required for mouse support and 4-player local multiplayer—which has been notably absent from the European eShop since launch.
Despite these initial setbacks, the Switch 2 iteration introduces native mouse controls, enhanced multiplayer features, and support for Game Share. The game’s installation footprint has grown from 1.6 GB to 2.3 GB. A definitive release date for the corrective patch has yet to be announced.
