Silksong-starved player builds the ultimate boss using Reddit-voted mods

Day 16 of fighting Savage Beastfly everyday until I can’t beat it anymore… from r/Silksong

Interestingly, SuddenlySpoons isn’t a veteran coder. He relies on a powerful and accessible level editor named Architect, developed by modder cometcake575. This tool has allowed him to implement increasingly complex hazards without needing a deep background in software development.

The current list of active modifiers for the Savage Beastfly (Lava Redux version) is a testament to Reddit’s creativity and cruelty:

  • Reintroduced the Fourth Chorus to the arena
  • Beastfly now summons Choir Clappers
  • Spit Squits spawn every 15 seconds, accompanied by a “support” Primal Aspid
  • Bells fall from the ceiling at random intervals
  • Two chaotic, high-speed fleas act as physics-based hazards
  • Persistent lava falls in the center of the stage
  • “Trobbio sensory overload” visual filters
  • The tragic removal of Pilby
  • Added Second Sentinel, Garmond, Zaza, Shakra, and Sherma as AI allies
  • A mandatory gong mechanic to prevent Sherma’s death (which triggers a game over)
  • Slubberlugs replaced by Groal’s wrecking balls
  • Crawfather chains substituted for GMS attacks
  • Hornet’s health pool has been doubled for survival
  • Four invincible Servitor Borans patrolling the space
  • The infamous “Ass Jim” DVD screensaver overlay

The community shows no signs of slowing down. A recent top-rated comment suggests adding “visual clutter” like Subway Surfers gameplay and Family Guy clips to the screen to further distract the player. As SuddenlySpoons notes, “Reddit gives, and Reddit definitely takes away.”

According to the streamer, the most mechanically challenging addition so far has been the spinning fleas. To bypass certain engine limitations in Architect, he had to get creative. “I imported PNGs of the fleas, gave them a random movement script, and then layered invisible bumpers on their paths,” he says. “It creates the illusion that the fleas are physically shoving me around. They’ve caused more deaths than the boss itself.”

Movement has also been severely restricted by the central lava falls. This single change effectively sliced the arena in half, forcing SuddenlySpoons to abandon his established muscle memory. “I was constantly dashed into the magma or getting punted into it by the other hazards,” he admitted.

As for how much further this can go, it depends entirely on the mercy of the subreddit. “If they keep the difficulty ramp steady, I can probably manage more visual noise and extra enemies,” SuddenlySpoons says. “But if they suggest something like playing one-handed or blindfolded, the run is effectively dead.”

He estimates that Day 30 might be the ultimate breaking point. “I can’t even fathom what the screen will look like by then, but the fans are invested. They’ve even thrown me a few beneficial mods, like the health buff, to keep the series alive. I’m going to push this as far as humanly possible.”

While the challenge is great for his YouTube channel, there’s a deeper personal motivation at play. “When Silksong finally dropped, I wanted to master it,” he explains. “I started noticing that the stunts I was pulling were more intense than anything I saw online. I began to wonder if I was actually among the best players in the world. This modded gauntlet is the ultimate way to prove that.”

Regardless of where the limit lies, one thing is certain: while speedrunners are perfecting their routes, SuddenlySpoons is the only one brave—or crazy—enough to fight a Beastfly while dodging DVD screensavers and lava falls.

In other news, the announcement of Slay the Spire 2 has sent ripples through the indie scene, prompting some developers to shift their release dates to avoid competing with the “genre juggernaut.”
