Shakira and The Weeknd have been named to the Advisory Board of the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, the organization announced on Monday, October 27, 2025. Their appointments place them among a roster of prominent figures tapped to help shape the fund’s strategy ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Joining the pair are Ivanka Trump, Hugh Jackman, FIFA president Gianni Infantino, Hugh Evans and Serena Williams, along with other leaders from entertainment, sport and business. The board will advise on program priorities and draw on members’ professional and personal experiences to ensure the fund’s initiatives deliver meaningful, measurable results.

The initiative aims to raise $100 million to expand educational access, targeting support for roughly 100,000 children across more than 200 communities worldwide. Board members will help steer investments and outreach so the fund can scale its impact before the 2026 World Cup next summer.

The announcement follows March’s reveal that Coldplay’s Chris Martin will curate a Super Bowl–style halftime show for the 2026 World Cup final, scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. At the time, FIFA president Gianni Infantino described the performance as a landmark moment for the tournament.

Global Citizen is a campaign-driven charity that tackles issues such as climate change, poverty and inequality through large-scale events, advocacy and public engagement. This weekend marks the Global Citizen Festival: Amazônia in Brazil — the organization’s first festival in Latin America — which features performances by Chris Martin, Anitta, Charlie Puth, Seu Jorge and others. The event aims to center indigenous voices and communities in the Amazon while raising funds to protect, restore and rewild the rainforest.

According to Global Citizen, roughly 350 million children around the world are currently out of school — a challenge the new education fund seeks to address through targeted programming, partnerships and fundraising.
