Roguelikelike FPS Bunker Punks busts out

Right, bear with me whereas I work out how you can write a few retro FPS with out stepping on Dominic Tarason’s (continuously strafing) toes. Bunker Punks is a roguelikelike shooter about stopping THE MAN from doing one thing BAD, I believe involving demise robots. I’m unsure, as a result of I skipped the opening textual content scrawl so I might bounce straight into the operating and gunning that Rob Zacny enjoyed when he punked some bunkers again in 2016. It got here out of early entry yesterday, so I figured now that Ninja Robot Dinosaur Entertainment have spent one other two years bunkering down on growth I’d be in for a deal with.

I used to be! As was revealed on the latest podcast, old skool FPS’s are a little bit of a blind spot for me – so I can’t let you know if the gunplay is Quake-quality or Doom worthy. Rob Zacny can though:

“It’s easy to underestimate Bunker Punks. It looks like a hundred other games. But it’s so precise and considered about each of the things it attempts to do that it won me over. From moment-to-moment, the run-and-gun gameplay reminded me of why I spent my childhood playing games like this, and the semi-roguelike approach to progress and permadeath always left me ready to dive back in for another attempt to destroy the corporations.”

That roguelikelike layer sees you increase a bunker between missions and lives, pumping up your punk’s stats and increasing their skills.

Maybe ‘old school’ is a bit deceptive, in that that is about hopping round procedurally generated ranges slightly than fastidiously sculpted ranges with secrets and techniques and whatnot. The fight is certainly in the identical vein although. While I’m but to play origi-Doom (I’ll quickly John, promise) I did play a little bit of Dusk lately, and located the quick paced strafing to be equally satisfying and punchy. I wasn’t blown away by the enemy selection in Bunker Punks up to now, however that’s in all probability as a result of I’ve solely performed for 20 minutes or so. There are loads of robo-corp horrors that I haven’t seen but on this right here trailer:

Bunker Punks is on the market on Steam, with a 15% launch low cost that places it at £9.34/$12.74/€12.74.
