Cannon acknowledged the years of dedication the team poured into the title, noting the inherent difficulty in taking creative risks. Riot has stated it aims to relocate affected employees within the company where feasible, offering a minimum of six months of severance or notice pay to those who cannot be placed elsewhere.

In contrast to the corporate narrative, Patrick Miller—a 12-year Riot veteran who spent a decade working on 2XKO—shared that he was terminated with only 30 minutes of notice.

“Gonna take some time,” he posted on Bluesky.

Cannon’s statement offered few specific details regarding the game’s future structure, simply noting that the team would provide further updates as the situation evolves.
