Phasmophobia to leave Steam Early Access after 6 years — developers reveal new character models and improvements

The acclaimed ghost-hunting simulator is steadily inching toward its official 1.0 launch.

In late December, the Phasmophobia development team published a detailed blog post outlining their long-term vision and milestones leading through 2026.

Kicking off the first quarter of next year, a major update will introduce revamped character models. Players will finally gain the ability to tailor their investigator’s appearance through an array of free cosmetic options.

Phasmophobia is also set to debut an overhauled movement animation system. This update focuses on tactile immersion, adding realistic interactions for manually opening and closing doors, cycling through gear, and the physical act of picking up or placing equipment.

Fresh death animations are on the way—curious players can find previews of these haunting new sequences in the official development update via the following link.

Additionally, the iconic 6 Tanglewood Drive map is scheduled for a redesign. The developers noted that these adjustments aim to polish and enhance the existing layout rather than implementing “overly radical changes.”

The full release of Phasmophobia is currently slated for 2026. This 1.0 milestone will launch alongside a massive content drop previously codenamed “Horror 2.0,” intended to redefine the game’s terrifying atmosphere.
