Nioh 3 Devs Reject Difficulty Settings in Favor of Expanded Strategic Options

Fujita elaborated, noting that “the reward of completing the journey is a unifying experience for our players.” However, he pointed out that Nioh 3 offers a more versatile toolkit than its predecessors. Much like the open-ended nature of Elden Ring, the new title provides players with various ways to enhance their characters and refine their tactics before facing down a particularly wall-like boss.

“Because Nioh 3 introduces even more strategic depth compared to previous entries, our goal isn’t to lower the bar when a player gets stuck,” Fujita explained. Instead, the focus is on player agency. “The true thrill comes from discovering your own path through a crisis. That sense of ingenuity and mastery is what we believe defines the series at its best.”

While Nioh 3’s current reception places it ahead of its predecessor on Metacritic, it still faces stiff competition from the original title that started the samurai Soulslike revolution.
