New PS5 Firmware Released — What’s Changed?

Sony has begun rolling out a new system update for the PlayStation 5 — version 25.06-12.02.00.00-00.00.00.0.1. Its primary purpose is to resolve security issues and enhance the console’s stability.

Players should not expect new features, as the update does not introduce any noticeable changes for end users.

The company also issued a corresponding update for the PS4, indicating the fix targets a vulnerability common to both systems. The official patch notes are limited to a single line: “We have made security fixes to system software.” Journalists suspect the update closes a potential exploit, but Sony has not disclosed details.

Recall that earlier this month the PS5 received a major update that added a power-saving option and the ability to pair a DualSense controller with multiple devices. Based on past practice, another large update is unlikely to appear soon, since Sony typically announces such changes ahead of time. The probability of an additional major system update before December 31, 2025, is viewed as low, though Sony could revise its plans if necessary.
