Dr. Mundo is one of the oldest champions in League of Legends, but in the game’s next patch he finally gets his first full update. After his 2009 debut, Dr. Mundo has held up pretty well over the years, but now Riot is remaking his abilities and his visuals to better match his mad-scientist theme.
Unlike certain other reworks, where Riot had to scrap a champion’s entire kit to improve them, the new Mundo is actually pretty familiar. In fact, most of these abilities should still be pretty recognizable for anyone who has played Dr. Mundo in the past.
He’s still all about regenerating his health, he still has a skillshot as his Q ability, an area-of-effect on his W, a steroid on his E, and even an Ultimate that helps him regenerate his health. Instead of a full identity change, most of the updates to Mundo’s kit seem to be designed around giving Riot more levers to pull when they need to balance him, and making sure his abilities fit in better with the modern version of League.
Mundo also got a full visual makeover, which includes his basic model, and all of his skins, including the ever-popular Corporate Mundo.
Dr. Mundo’s rework will be part of League of Legends patch 11.12, which should be released in a couple of weeks. Before that, it will go on Riot’s Public Beta Environment where players can test the changes while the developers make adjustments to his balance. For a closer look at all of Mundo’s changes, and all his updated skins, you can check out Riot’s official blog about the rework.
Here’s Dr. Mundo’s full, reworked kit:
Passive — Goes Where he Pleases
Dr. Mundo resists the next immobilizing effect that hits him, instead losing current health and dropping a chemical cannister nearby. Dr. Mundo can pick it up by walking over it, restoring a portion of maximum health and reducing this passive’s cooldown. Enemies moving over the cannister destroy it.
Dr. Mundo also has increased health regeneration based on his maximum health.
Q – Infected Bonesaw
Dr. Mundo throws an infected bonesaw, dealing magic damage to the first enemy hit based on their current health and slowing them.
W – Heart Zapper
Dr. Mundo electrocutes himself for a few seconds, dealing persistent magic damage to nearby enemies and storing a portion of damage he takes as grey health. At the end of the duration, Dr. Mundo deals a burst of magic damage to nearby enemies and heals his grey health if an enemy is hit (heal reduced if only minions or monsters are hit). Dr. Mundo can recast Heart Zapper to end its effects early.
E – Blunt Force Trauma
Passive – Dr. Mundo has bonus attack damage, increasing based on his missing health.
Active – Dr. Mundo slams his “medical” bag into an enemy, dealing physical damage based on his missing health. If the enemy dies they are swatted away, dealing this ability’s minimum damage to enemies they pass through.
R – Maximum Dosage
Dr. Mundo pumps himself with chemicals, instantly healing a percent of his missing health. He then heals a portion of his maximum health over a long duration, gaining bonus movement speed and attack damage while healing.
