Although filming was postponed after Henry Cavill sustained an injury, Chad Stahelski’s Highlander reboot continues to expand its cast.
Amazon MGM is still assembling the ensemble for its remake of the 1986 film Highlander. Earlier reports indicated that Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) would take on the role of the Kurgan — the story’s principal antagonist. However, The Hollywood Reporter says Connor MacLeod — portrayed by Henry Cavill — will face an additional adversary created specifically for this reboot.
That part has gone to British actor Jeremy Irons, known for his portrayal of Alfred Pennyworth in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The outlet reports Irons will play a member of the secretive order known as the Watchers — individuals who observe and monitor the Immortals.
Stahelski’s Highlander reboot remains in preproduction. Filming was originally planned for the fall, but Cavill suffered a leg injury during training, delaying production by roughly six months.
The movie still does not have an official release date. Stahelski previously mentioned 2027 or 2028 as possibilities, though a 2027 release now appears unlikely.
