Head of Assassin’s Creed Franchise Leaves Ubisoft After 20 Years

Marc-Alexis Côté has declined an offer from Tencent.

Marc-Alexis Côté, the leader of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, has left Ubisoft after more than two decades with the company. His departure came just two weeks after Ubisoft’s flagship franchise, Assassin’s Creed, was placed under Vantage Studios — a newly formed entity created by Ubisoft in partnership with Tencent. Vantage Studios will also oversee upcoming Far Cry and Rainbow Six projects.

Ubisoft employees received an internal memo stressing the need for Vantage Studios’ leadership to be aligned with the company’s core objectives. According to IGN, Côté was offered a role within Vantage Studios’ leadership team, but he turned it down. Vantage Studios co-head Christophe Derenn expressed disappointment at Côté’s decision, noting that he had “his own expectations and priorities” about the formation and future direction of Vantage Studios.

We are saddened to part ways with him, but we are confident our talented teams will continue to build on the foundation he established. We are deeply grateful to Marc-Alexis for his contributions, particularly in shaping the Assassin’s Creed brand. His leadership, creativity, and dedication have left an indelible mark on our teams and among players.
Ubisoft.
