An HBO executive has reaffirmed that the upcoming television series will serve as an exceptionally faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s original novels.
Sarah Aubrey, the Head of Original Content at Max, shared insights during the Content London conference, noting that the “Harry Potter” project is progressing seamlessly toward its creative goals.
“I constantly find myself struck by how magnificent this adaptation is. I believe that once audiences see the show, they will feel it truly embodies the spirit of the books.”
This isn’t the first time HBO representatives have touted the series’ commitment to accuracy. However, certain casting reveals and rumors—such as the possibility of a gender-swapped Lord Voldemort—have led some fans to question exactly how strictly the production will adhere to the source material’s traditional imagery.
The project is being spearheaded by showrunner Francesca Gardiner (known for His Dark Materials), with Mark Mylod (Succession) set to direct. The iconic trio of Harry, Ron, and Hermione will be brought to life by newcomers Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Stanton.
Principal photography is taking place at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden, the historical home of the original film franchise. The series is tentatively scheduled for a 2027 premiere, with each season designed to cover one of the seven entries in Rowling’s beloved book series.
