Tech-savvy exploiters recently managed to identify a critical vulnerability in the game’s security infrastructure.
Earlier this year, Respawn Entertainment issued a formal statement regarding a significant “security breach” impacting Apex Legends.
Malicious actors successfully infiltrated the online environment, gaining the ability to hijack other players’ avatars. During these disruptions, hackers were observed forcibly discarding players’ equipment and launching their characters from extreme altitudes to eliminate them.
The development team moved quickly to address concerns, assuring the community that no unauthorized software was deployed on individual user hardware:
“Our initial forensic investigation has yielded no evidence suggesting that attackers were able to install or execute arbitrary code on player systems.”
Not long after, the developers confirmed that a security patch had been successfully implemented:
“This situation has been resolved with the vital assistance of our community. Anti-cheat development is a perpetual game of cat and mouse; your detailed reports are fundamental in directing our focus toward the insights that made today’s fix possible.”
