Throughout 2025, two names dominated the gaming discourse: Nintendo and GTA 6. As Nintendo laid the groundwork for the highly anticipated Switch 2, Grand Theft Auto VI maintained its position as one of the most significant cultural milestones in the industry’s history.
According to data from GamesIndustry, Nintendo emerged as the most-discussed company of the year, surpassing Xbox in total media mentions. Microsoft’s gaming division navigated a transformative and somewhat turbulent period, marked by shifting strategies, price adjustments, and the expansion of its titles to competing hardware.
PlayStation experienced a relatively quiet year in terms of major first-party output, with few blockbuster releases coming directly from its internal studios. Despite this lull, the brand still secured third place on the list of most-covered entities, ahead of general mentions for its parent company, Sony, and Microsoft’s corporate brand.
In the software rankings, GTA VI claimed the top spot for media coverage, narrowly edging out Battlefield 6. Both titles saw significantly higher engagement than Fortnite and The Last of Us, which occupied the third and fourth positions, respectively.
