George Clooney has decided that he has reached an age where on-screen kissing no longer feels appropriate. The 63-year-old actor came to this realization following a candid discussion with his wife, human rights attorney Amal Clooney. He acknowledged that regardless of physical fitness or cosmetic maintenance, he is transitioning into a different stage of his career, suggesting that romantic leads are perhaps better suited for the younger generation.
“When I hit 60, I spoke with my wife. I said, ‘Look, I still play basketball with guys in their twenties. I’m active and I stay in shape. But in 25 years, I’ll be 85. No matter how many granola bars you eat, that’s a real, unavoidable number.’”
As a result, the Academy Award winner has also opted to distance himself from the romantic comedy genre, which inherently requires the kind of intimacy he is now choosing to avoid.
In a humorous twist of fate, Clooney’s romantic technique was once the subject of professional scrutiny earlier in his career, when a director reportedly criticized his kissing style, claiming he wasn’t performing the act correctly for the camera.
