Free MMORPG Blue Protocol: Star Resonance Hit with a Wave of Criticism on Release Day

Blue Protocol: Star Resonance seemed poised to become a major free-to-play success, but its launch turned out to be highly disappointing. The anime-inspired MMORPG initially looked promising, yet players are now voicing clear dissatisfaction.

The project was originally overseen by Bandai Namco, but the rights later moved to Tencent. On release day, users began reporting numerous issues and criticizing the game’s overall quality.

The primary complaint is a shortage of content. According to players, the main storyline can be completed in just a few hours, after which only a repetitive combat loop remains — a grind that quickly becomes dull. Server instability has also hampered a smooth play experience.

Some players note that microtransactions are largely cosmetic, which is at least a positive aspect.

On Steam, Blue Protocol: Star Resonance holds roughly a 45% positive review rate. However, MMOs have recovered from poor launches before — it’s possible this title could still turn things around.
