Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 Horror Movie Released Digitally

While its theatrical run is still underway, the sequel to the Five Nights at Freddy’s cinematic adaptation has already arrived on digital platforms for home viewing.

After spending just over two weeks on the big screen, Blumhouse has officially released the horror follow-up Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 in digital format.

Picking up one year after the events of the original film, this sequel continues to explore the lore of the popular gaming franchise. The narrative once again centers on the dark enigmas of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, specifically focusing on the connection between Abby (Piper Rubio) and the animatronics. Josh Hutcherson (Mike) and Elizabeth Lail (Vanessa) reprise their leading roles, while the cast expands to include notable names such as Matthew Lillard, Skeet Ulrich, and Megan Fox.

The film has highlighted a massive rift between professional critics and the fanbase. On Rotten Tomatoes, the sequel holds a dismal 16% critic score, contrasted sharply by a 85% audience approval rating—one of the most significant disparities of the year. Reviewers have characterized the film as a step down from its predecessor that fails to capitalize on its premise, whereas fans have praised its visual direction and faithful atmosphere.

Metacritic data reflects a similar sentiment, ranking Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 as the third worst-reviewed film of the year by average score, trailing only Ice Cube’s War of the Worlds and Simon West’s Spy Wedding.

Despite the lukewarm critical reception, the movie remains a commercial heavyweight. Studio reports indicate that the film has already surpassed $200 million at the global box office, with over $108 million earned domestically in the US. While these figures are currently shy of the 2023 original—which finished its run with $297 million—the sequel continues to solidify its place as one of the year’s most prominent horror releases.
