Fans Vote Katy Perry’s ‘Watch It Burn’ as Favorite New Music of the Week

Katy Perry’s blistering new anthem, “Watch It Burn,” has officially dominated this week’s new music poll, resonating deeply with fans.

In a reader poll hosted on Billboard this past Friday (June 26), music enthusiasts declared the pop icon’s latest release as their favorite track of the week.

The track fended off stiff competition from rising stars and established artists alike, including TEEKS, sombr, Gracie Abrams, and Phoebe Bridgers. By the time the polls closed on Sunday, Perry had secured a decisive victory, capturing 27% of the total vote.

“Watch It Burn” serves as a raw, cathartic release for Perry. In the opening verse, she makes her stance clear: “For years, I tried to rise above / Was only light and love / But now I’m, ‘Shut the f— up.’” The track is bolstered by a high-octane music video helmed by director Christian Breslauer, matching the song’s fiery intensity.

The chorus captures this spirit of liberation: “You know I gave and I gave / Now I’m giving up / There’s nothing more you can take / No, I don’t want to cause a scene / But give me the gasoline / Tonight’s the night, I light a match / Throw it hard behind my back.”

This release follows Perry’s November single, “Bandaids,” and continues the momentum from her 2024 studio album, 143, which firmly established itself as a top 10 hit on the Billboard 200.

Rounding out the top three were TEEKS’ emotive ballad “My Boy,” which claimed 18% of the vote, and sombr’s “My Body Isn’t Ready,” which earned 16%.
