A public memorial service and celebration of life have been scheduled for the multi-talented artist Oliver Tree, who tragically lost his life in a helicopter accident in Rio de Janeiro on June 14. The service will take place on July 25 at the UCSC Quarry Amphitheater in Santa Cruz. To ensure that his wide community of fans can participate, a livestream is currently being arranged, with further details expected to be shared in the coming days.

Oliver Tree Nickell, aged 32, was in the midst of his ambitious “World’s First World Tour” when the fatal incident occurred. The tragedy also claimed the lives of passengers Lucas Vignale, Gaspar Prim, and Lucas Brito Chaves, along with pilots Alexandre Souza and Charles Marsillac.

Known for his genre-defying sound and visual ingenuity, Tree’s final studio album, Love You Madly Hate You Badly, was released this past April. His artistic legacy is vast; his breakthrough album Ugly Is Beautiful reached the summit of the Billboard Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart in 2020, while his collaborations—such as the global hit “Miss You” with Robin Schulz—cemented his status as a creative force.

In a poignant tribute, his family described him as a visionary who viewed the world as his canvas. “Oliver cared deeply about disseminating art, joy, and laughter,” the statement read. “He seamlessly merged his outlandish on-stage personas with his authentic self, teaching us all that beauty exists even in the unconventional. Beneath the humor, he aimed to build an inclusive space where everyone felt empowered to reach their true potential.”

To honor his memory, the family has requested that supporters contribute to Dr. Oliver Tree’s Extremely Epic Art Grant for Baby Geniuses. This initiative, established by the artist in his final wishes, provides funding to emerging talents across music, film, and performance art. Contributions can be made via olivertreefoundation.com.
