Fallout: New Vegas receives a fan-made next-gen texture update

Advancements in modern technology are empowering enthusiasts to overhaul game visuals independently.

Amidst persistent whispers regarding an official Fallout: New Vegas remake or remaster, dedicated fans have taken the initiative to revitalize the classic title on their own terms.

Recently, a modder known as Montisz unveiled a comprehensive next-gen texture overhaul. To achieve these results, the creator utilized ByteDance’s sophisticated SeedVR2 AI model, which is specifically engineered for high-fidelity image and video upscaling. As a result, the game’s assets now boast resolutions two to four times higher than the original textures.

Montisz elaborated on what sets this project apart from similar modifications:

Unlike legacy mods that simply sharpened blurred images—often resulting in an artificial, “waxy” finish—the seedvr2_ema_7b_fp16 model introduces authentic surface details. Textures for wood, rust, and fabric patterns that were previously hidden are now clearly visible, while on-screen text has been significantly improved.

The “New Vegas Restoration Project (VRP) 1.0” for Fallout: New Vegas is currently available as a free download through Nexus Mods.
