Epic Games has launched a widespread campaign to reclaim V-Bucks and cosmetic items from Fortnite accounts that exploited an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate promotional offer.
The controversy centers on the “first month for $1” introductory deal. As part of this promotion, new subscribers were granted access to the Fortnite Crew, which included 1,000 V-Bucks and other exclusive perks.
While the offer was entirely legitimate, some players sought to manipulate the system. After securing their rewards, they didn’t just cancel their subscriptions; they also filed for chargebacks through their banks or card providers to recover the initial dollar. This effectively allowed them to retain V-Bucks and digital goods for which Epic Games received no payment.
Epic Games has categorized these maneuvers as financial fraud and began enforcing its strict refund policies in late December. Affected players have reported receiving notifications that V-Bucks and any items purchased with the disputed funds are being stripped from their accounts. The company emphasized that these corrective measures only target individuals who initiated fraudulent refunds, rather than those who simply canceled their subscriptions according to the standard rules.
