Several core gameplay mechanics have already been successfully integrated into the project.
Modder Bogdan “Zodjeks” Vasilenko recently showcased a new development diary for his project, Unreal Far Cry. Described as a comprehensive fan-led remake of the original 2004 classic, the project is being built from the ground up using the cutting-edge Unreal Engine 5.
The current build features functional equipment scavenging as well as mechanics for throwing grenades and stones. Additionally, melee combat has been introduced, with a tactical knife currently serving as the primary close-quarters weapon.
A dedicated stamina system is also in place: energy reserves are depleted during sprinting and jumping. Once the meter reaches zero, the protagonist is temporarily unable to perform these actions until the gauge partially recharges.
Other notable technical advancements include:
- Bespoke “draw” animations have been implemented for every weapon in the arsenal.
- A dynamic text-prompt system is now operational for all environmental interactions.
- Core logic for the binoculars, compass, and flashlight has been fully developed.
- A comprehensive interaction framework has been established for engaging with world objects, such as doors.
Zodjeks intends to continue the steady evolution of Unreal Far Cry, focusing on refining existing assets while introducing new gameplay layers.
