This deal follows a string of major industry acquisitions, most recently Microsoft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard. That transaction sparked a protracted legal and regulatory review around the world before ultimately being approved — and was followed by multiple rounds of layoffs that reduced teams and led to cancelled projects. Private equity ownership can look different from corporate buyers, and while some investors may be less likely to make sweeping cuts, the future direction remains uncertain.
