Digital Foundry has published an in-depth technical analysis of Update 1.30 for Control: Ultimate Edition on PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S. The patch introduces graphical and performance enhancements, delivering a noticeably smoother and more detailed experience compared with the launch build.
Reviewers pointed out that one of the most significant changes is to Temporal Anti-Aliasing (TAA), long a weak point for Control. Remedy implemented a revised TAA solution that—while not perfect—substantially reduces blurring and visual artifacts. The PS5 Pro also gains a PSSR upscaling option that improves image sharpness with a moderate hit to performance.
The update also unlocks the framerate. On the PS5 in Performance mode the game generally runs between 60–90 fps, occasionally peaking around 110 fps in less demanding areas and dropping below 60 fps during intense combat; VRR helps smooth those swings. The PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X typically deliver an additional 10–15 fps over the base PS5, improving stability. In Quality mode with ray tracing enabled the framerate is capped at 40 fps on PS5 and Series X, while the PS5 Pro can sustain 60 fps, offering a better balance between visuals and responsiveness.
Overall, Digital Foundry concludes that Update 1.30 makes Control: Ultimate Edition on current-generation consoles feel smoother, more responsive, and more visually coherent—an example of how older titles can be revitalized by modern hardware.
