Despite his deep admiration for Mario’s bravery, Martinet sees himself in the shadow of the taller, greener brother. “I’ve always been more of a Luigi,” he admitted, reflecting on his childhood. “My own brother was the one with the natural courage. I remember when we were young and our parents would leave us with a sitter; my brother would boldly head right out the door. Meanwhile, I was the one hesitating, asking, ‘Are we absolutely certain it’s safe out there?’ I live with that Luigi-like caution, which is why I’ve always looked up to Mario’s fearless spirit.”
