The retail version of the game ultimately deviated significantly from the visuals presented throughout its early promotional cycle.
A modder known as Crasher has recently returned to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt with a mission to revitalize the experience. Utilizing the official REDkit editing suite, they have completely overhauled the “VGX Lighting” modification to bring it up to modern standards:
“During the development of this mod, I referenced uncompressed screenshots as my primary guide. For regions never featured in the original trailers, I employed a measure of ‘deductive reasoning’ to reconstruct the atmosphere. Some areas were reimagined from the ground up to better capture the aesthetic seen in those early reveals.”
The creator’s goal is to fundamentally recalibrate the visual identity of The Witcher 3, meticulously aligning it with the atmospheric lighting debuted during the iconic 2013 VGX trailer.
The “VGX Lighting Mod Next Gen” is currently available as a free download for all players via the Nexus Mods platform.
