Honestly, if this had happened to me, I probably would have just rolled with it—there are certainly worse distractions in a gaming library. The community has been quite lighthearted about the situation. “This reads like a headline from The Onion,” noted one user, while another joked: “Wait a minute… that’s not a bug, it’s a feature. Just give them Destiny 2.”

Bungie also addressed a more frustrating bug regarding premium purchases. “We have also fixed a problem where Collector’s Edition owners were encountering errors when trying to redeem their game codes on Steam,” the announcement added.

With these issues behind them, players can refocus on Bungie’s first entirely new project in nearly a decade, which also serves as the first entry in the Marathon series in thirty years. Moving away from the looter-shooter RPG framework of Destiny 2, Marathon focuses on tactical scavenging and competitive extraction.

The game is set in a far-flung future where cybernetically enhanced “Runners” battle for dwindling resources in a striking, vibrant wasteland. After more than ten years of Destiny, the prospect of a Bungie shooter with less narrative baggage is compelling—even if the developer seems intent on reminding us that the Guardians still exist.

Ex-Marathon art director notes that Concord comparisons were tough, yet remains unfazed by online critics.
