Not long after Conan O’Brien streamed Borderlands 4 and unintentionally disclosed plot details, another individual managed to access the console build early and streamed three hours of PS5 footage last night. The broadcast was removed and the streamer received a temporary Twitch suspension, but they did share some notes about how the PS5 version performs.
In a Reddit post, user platinrusse describes streaming on a standard PS5 and notes: “That was worth a DMCA strike + a 2-day Twitch ban.” Regarding performance, they report the base PS5 handles the game well in the in-game performance mode, which “feels like more than 60fps,” while fidelity mode performs poorly. The poster also mentions the absence of a FOV slider, confirms split-screen support in both horizontal and vertical layouts, and says the installation requires a 4GB update.
Given the Twitch ban, further streams from that account seem unlikely, but with console releases imminent in regions like New Zealand, more firsthand performance reports should surface soon.
Despite beefy system requirements that promise “solid performance on older PC hardware,” Randy Pitchford’s advice about having “realistic expectations” is making me a bit uneasy.
