Blizzard: The Next Chapter – YouTube

The accompanying video serves as a nostalgic retrospective of the studio’s legacy, showcasing approximately 400 historical pieces from Blizzard’s physical vaults. The footage spans from the early days of console classics like *The Lost Vikings* and *Rock n’ Roll Racing* to a cryptic blank page paired with a 2026 BlizzCon ticket, symbolizing the company’s future ventures.
Perhaps the most poignant moment for long-time fans is the brief StarCraft tribute nestled in the middle of the reel. Originally released in 1998, StarCraft and its *Brood War* expansion were instrumental in the birth of the modern esports scene, particularly in South Korea. While the *StarCraft 2* trilogy provided a triumphant return in 2010, the IP has been largely quiet since the launch of *Legacy of the Void* in 2015.
Nonetheless, there are whispers that the Zerg and Protoss might return soon. Recent reports from early 2024 suggest that the franchise is far from dead, with rumors of a new StarCraft shooter being an “open secret” within the industry. While this may not be the traditional RTS experience fans have been clamoring for, any sign of life for the series is significant. We may finally get clarity on the future of the Koprulu Sector at BlizzCon later this year.
It is easy to see why StarCraft 2 remains a titan in our roundup of the best strategy games.
