Beautiful, Smooth, and with Solid Gameplay — Digital Foundry Raves About Ghost of Yotei

When the embargo was lifted, not only reviews but also a technical breakdown from Digital Foundry surfaced online. The team had ample time to examine the game and its technical foundations.

Ghost of Yotei offers a Quality mode (4K/30fps), a Performance mode (60fps at 1080p on PS5 and 1440p on PS5 Pro), and two ray-tracing presets — Raytracing (30fps at 1440p on PS5 and 1728p on PS5 Pro) and Raytracing Pro (1080p/60fps with PSSR), the latter exclusive to PS5 Pro.

Despite compromises with ray tracing — RT Pro can introduce noise on fabrics and fine details — the effect is noticeable on both PS5 and PS5 Pro, especially when global ray tracing runs at 60fps on the more powerful hardware. Quality mode is locked to 30 fps and Performance mode to 60 fps; before the day-one update frame rates could dip to around 50 fps, an issue later resolved by a patch.

Digital Foundry also highlights the solid HDR implementation, the attention to small details even in close-ups, improved animations, weather effects, and several creative choices carried over from the previous game.
