
Star Wars Battlefront II (2017) is a noteworthy example: it debuted to poor reviews and a Metacritic score of 68, but over time it has recovered and become one of DICE’s most appreciated player-facing titles, particularly on Steam.
Compared with the series’ high-water marks, Battlefield 6 sits a little below some previous peaks. Battlefield 1 currently rates at 88, while Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 — often cited by fans and developers as the franchise’s defining entries — score 89 and 81 respectively. Landing above Battlefield 4 but below Battlefield 3 is a respectable outcome for Battlefield 6.
As our reviewer Joel Franey observed: “It might not have an original idea in its head, taking the safer choice every time one had to be made, but as might be expected with the backing of four studios, it presents itself incredibly well and has been refined into a very pure experience.”
Dropping PS4 and Xbox One was a “magic trick” for Battlefield 6 and its improved destruction, technical director says: “We’ve kind of raised the floor of what we have.”
