However, the victory wasn’t without its detractors. Some fans argued that No Man’s Sky was a more fitting recipient for the 2025 accolade, noting that while Baldur’s Gate 3 is universally beloved, Hello Games delivered significantly more substantial updates throughout the year to support their ever-evolving universe.

“It’s frustrating when people vote based on popularity rather than merit for specific categories,” one user remarked on the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit. “BG3 is incredible, but it received just one final major update recently. No Man’s Sky rolled out four and shows no signs of slowing down.”

The director of Baldur’s Gate 3 suggests that “a lot has been lost in translation” regarding Divinity’s reveal and the subsequent AI discourse, stating that ignoring new technology would be “irresponsible.”
