Arc Raiders Devs Consider High-Stakes Raids But Fear Segmenting the Player Base

Legendary and epic weapon stash in Arc Raiders

The concept for these high-value raids is relatively simple. A specific map or a time-limited event could mandate a minimum loadout value—for example, 40,000 coins. If your equipment doesn’t hit that mark, you aren’t allowed in. This would be a significant step up from the “budget” builds Watkins estimates at around 4,000 to 5,000 coins, theoretically ensuring that every encounter features an opponent with valuable loot to lose.

The potential impact of this system is twofold. It would filter out “zero-risk” players who often play with reckless aggression because they have nothing to lose, but it might also intensify combat since every player becomes a high-value target. However, as Watkins noted, this creates cooperative hurdles. If a veteran player wants to bring a newcomer into a high-stakes zone, they might have to subsidize their friend’s gear first. There’s also the risk of players “gaming” the system by carrying heavy, expensive items that serve no tactical purpose just to meet the entry requirement.

“I definitely understand the desire for it,” Watkins admits. “Players want that feeling of, ‘I’m coming in fully loaded, and I know everyone else is too.’ It provides a consistent high-tier experience, rather than having your run ended by someone with a basic Stitcher dropping out of the rafters with nothing to lose.”

“Will this break the server?”: Arc Raiders players have become so efficient at taking down machines that Embark is looking for ways to “escalate” the PvE threat, teasing new escapes and massive enemies looming in the distance.
