“It’s time to become a turnip prophet,” joked one Redditor in a popular thread, reflecting the common sentiment among players suddenly faced with Tom Nook’s exorbitant demands.

It is also important to note that Tom Nook requires payment upfront for these upgrades; rolling the cost into an existing loan is not an option. Adding to the frustration, the funds cannot be transferred directly from your bank account. You must manually withdraw the full amount from the ABD, filling your pockets with massive sacks of Bells before handing them over to the island’s relentless business mogul.

While a few elite Animal Crossing veterans have more than enough Bells to fund their own expansions (and are even offering to assist struggling neighbors), they represent the minority. For the rest of the community, it’s a return to the turnip mines, grinding for profit to avoid living in a cluttered digital home.

Rethinking my island layout in Animal Crossing: New Horizons has completely revitalized my experience, capturing that same magic found in 2005’s Wild World.
