Even in its early testing phases, Aion 2 has already sparked intense debate over its character customization features. The game’s powerful editor allows for the creation of strikingly lifelike avatars, which some players are using to replicate real-world celebrities in hyper-sexualized contexts.
Although Aion 2 is still undergoing preliminary testing, it has found itself at the heart of a controversy surrounding its character creation tools. The sophisticated editor enables users to craft incredibly realistic heroes, prompting some players to reconstruct famous personalities in overtly sexualized ways.
A South Korean legal expert specializing in digital sex crimes has warned that such behavior could constitute a violation of both criminal and civil law.
“When a virtual character is clearly identifiable as a real person and is placed in non-consensual sexualized scenarios, it falls into the same legal gray area as deepfakes and other forms of digital abuse.”
NCSoft has yet to provide an official comment on the situation. The issue remains a point of contention: to what extent should player creativity be permitted when modern technology allows for digital models that are virtually indistinguishable from reality?
