2025 is the Year of Ninja and Samurai: PlayStation Showcases a Selection of Games About Master Assassins

While 2025 was a landmark year for gaming, several compelling projects managed to slip under the radar. PlayStation has recently spotlighted a selection of titles where players can fully immerse themselves in the roles of legendary ninjas and disciplined samurai.

In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, players master the dual paths of a shinobi and a samurai, navigating the treacherous landscapes of feudal Japan to carry out high-stakes assassinations. Ghost of Yōtei features the return of the cinematic “Kurosawa mode,” following the journey of the mercenary Atsu as she utilizes sophisticated stealth tactics and an arsenal of ranged tools, including kunai and smoke canisters.

Ninja Gaiden 4 prioritizes blistering speed, intricate combos, and high-octane mobility, whereas Ragebound merges contemporary gameplay mechanics with a retro aesthetic and tactical battlefield management. Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny Remastered focuses on masterful swordplay against supernatural demonic forces, while Shinobi: Art of Vengeance revives the classic 2D ninja platforming experience. Additionally, Ninja Five-O challenges players to utilize covert skills to dismantle criminal networks and rescue hostages.

According to the PlayStation Blog, Nioh 3 is slated for release on February 6, 2026. This will be followed by several highly anticipated projects, including Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Ghost of Yōtei Legends, and a significant narrative expansion for Ninja Gaiden 4.
