“Over the last 24 months, Ubisoft has implemented several company-wide measures to optimize operations and improve efficiency,” the publisher stated. “As a result, we have made the difficult choice to close our Halifax studio, affecting 71 positions. We are fully committed to supporting all impacted colleagues during this period, providing them with severance packages and professional career assistance.”
In late 2024, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot explained that the company was undergoing a restructuring phase to “revitalize the creativity and innovation” that originally fueled the publisher’s success. This overhaul has led to multiple rounds of layoffs; for instance, Massive Entertainment, the team behind Star Wars Outlaws, recently introduced a “voluntary career transition” program to reduce its workforce.
As part of this ongoing evolution, Ubisoft has also deepened its ties with Chinese tech giant Tencent. Their new subsidiary, Vantage Studios, is now overseeing major pillars of the company’s portfolio, including the future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
