Russian RPG “Yar” is ready but riddled with bugs — harassed by haters, developer will risk his health to release it

Another Gothic-inspired title is steadily nearing its release.

The creator of the game “Yar” (previously known as “Ancient Rus”) recently published a new development diary. The developer reported that the game is now functionally complete.

There’s a caveat, however: “it had many bugs, at least it did.” The developer is currently running tests and addressing those issues. The full storyline and questlines have been implemented, voice acting recorded, and the game can be played from the opening sequence through to the credits.

The developer of “Yar” is committed to releasing updates incrementally:

“I’m working nonstop and have cut my sleep to six hours—please don’t lecture me about health; I’m beyond caring. I’m exhausted by haters, doubters, trolls, and all the people who’ve nagged me for a year and fail to understand that large single-player open-world RPGs aren’t made quickly or easily. If the game’s foundation changes, you can’t just patch it without risking what already exists. Still, a time will come when those who’ve mocked and abandoned us will feel ashamed—if they have any conscience at all. To those who turned away, betrayed, removed the game from their wishlists, unjustly accused or baselessly hated: I hope you feel deep remorse; if not, then go and never return. We’re building a community of thoughtful, reasonable people. Thank you to everyone who believes in the project and remains by my side—without you, I wouldn’t know where to find the strength to keep going. Steam shows I’ve lost 20,000 wishlists, which is a lot and very disheartening. Well, farewell; I won’t give in to despair. My goal is to finish the game at any cost, even though it’s unlikely to recoup the time and money invested, and if wishlists keep dropping it may ultimately fail. Still, I no longer care about that—I only want to create the best Slavic open-world RPG possible.”
