Portable PS6 Handheld Without OLED Will Cost $500 — Insider

Interest in portable gaming hardware surged after ASUS published official pricing for the ROG Xbox Ally. With ASUS releasing new Xbox-branded handhelds, fans began debating how Sony might approach its own codename project, Canis.

Insider KeplerL2 shared his perspective, highlighting distinctions between ASUS’s new devices and the rumors surrounding Sony. He wrote:

“This isn’t comparable to a PS6 console/handheld. The ASUS device is produced in limited runs and is sold profitably.”.

The remark was made in response to community worries that rising component costs could make a portable PlayStation prohibitively expensive.

The insider clarified that Canis will use a compact SoC, which should help lower manufacturing expenses.

“Canis uses a very small SoC that draws less power than current handhelds, so you can save on the mainboard, cooling, and battery. I think $499 is realistic if they don’t go with OLED,” KeplerL2 noted. This contrasts with estimates suggesting a device with even half the PS5’s power could exceed $600.

Sony has not made any official statements about Project Canis. According to reports allegedly originating from AMD, the handheld would be part of the PS6 ecosystem, capable of running games natively and offering backward compatibility with PS4 and PS5.
