A Surprise Encounter: Bad Bunny Meets Pope Leo XIV in Madrid

In a surprising turn of events, global superstar Bad Bunny held a private audience with Pope Leo XIV in Madrid. This rare meeting, first reported by Spanish broadcaster RTVE on Tuesday, June 9, was later officially verified by the Vatican.

The encounter took place on Monday, June 8, at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium. The pontiff, who was in the Spanish capital for a series of pastoral engagements, extended an invitation to the Puerto Rican artist during his visit.

Rumors of a potential meeting had been circulating for several days. While the Pope was in town for his official state and religious duties, Bad Bunny has been anchoring a residency at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano as part of his high-profile Debí Tirar Más Fotos World Tour.

Reports indicate that representatives for the musician reached out to the Spanish Episcopal Conference weeks in advance to coordinate the visit. Sources suggest there were even preliminary discussions regarding a possible appearance by the artist at a massive public mass at the Plaza de Cibeles, though those plans did not come to fruition.

According to RTVE, the meeting was intimate, with Bad Bunny joined by his family. While attendees captured personal photos on their phones, no official images have been released to the public as of yet, though it is understood that a formal portrait was taken by the papal staff.

This private audience occurred during a brief hiatus in Bad Bunny’s tour schedule. The artist is slated to resume his performances in Madrid on June 10, continuing through the 15th to wrap up the final dates of his local residency.

Billboard Español has contacted both the Vatican press office and representatives for Bad Bunny for further comment.
