Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez Celebrate Wedding Anniversary With Year-Old Cake Despite Martin Short’s Taste Test

Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco marked their first wedding anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 27, by eating a slice of cake saved from their 2025 wedding.

Blanco shared a photo on his Instagram Story of the preserved dessert on a pink plate that read “LOVE IS LOVE.”

“Year old cake never tasted so good,” the music producer wrote.

He posted another photo from the couple’s wedding ceremony with the caption, “1 year down… forever to go…”

Blanco learned about the anniversary tradition from Gomez’s grandmother, who instructed them to save part of the cake. “I didn’t even know this was a thing,” Blanco said while guest hosting Today with Jenna & Sheinelle earlier in the month.

The couple faced one issue because the cake had already been partially eaten.

Blanco explained that they had a small cake at the reception instead of a traditional wedding cake, and Gomez’s Only Murders in the Building co-star Martin Short mistook it for a prop and took a bite.

“He just ate it with his hand, and they had to put it back together,” Blanco stated.

Blanco noted they had six slices left, joking that he hoped the tradition stops after the first year. “I hope you only have to eat it for the first year,” he said. “I don’t want to be eating this thing on year six. I didn’t even wrap it correctly. It’s probably furry now.”

Gomez and Blanco married on Sept. 27, 2025, in Santa Barbara, California. They kept their celebration low-key, planning to spend their anniversary resting after months of travel.

The pair have continued their creative collaboration over the past year. Blanco released his Spanish-language-inspired album Hermoso in August, which features “Te Olvido (La La)” with Gomez and Becky G. That followed Gomez and Blanco’s joint 2025 album I Said I Love You First, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, marking Blanco’s first top 10 album on the chart and Gomez’s seventh.
