The forthcoming Switch releases of Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel are promising ways to revisit two of the greatest 3D platformers, but the asking price — $40 each or $70 for both — raises questions about value. That concern is amplified by the fact the first Galaxy already received a prior Switch release, though this new edition does appear to include additional remastering work.
Nintendo describes both Super Mario Galaxy titles on Switch as featuring “upgraded visuals,” and a new GVG video suggests that the improvements go beyond a simple resolution bump. The analysis highlights noticeable texture enhancements and added detail, and side-by-side comparisons with the Super Mario 3D All-Stars version on Switch show clear visual work has been done for this release.
Is any of this worth $40? That’s a subjective call. There have been remasters that felt more lavish yet cost less, and while two classic Mario titles still offer tremendous gameplay value compared with many modern $70 releases, paying a premium for games some players already own can be a tough sell.
The ranks of the best Wii games include some stone-cold classics.
