NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said in an interview that Intel spent decades trying to destroy the company. After years of rivalry, that antagonism has shifted to cooperation — Intel will build two new microprocessors for NVIDIA.
In recent months Intel has faced serious financial challenges: layoffs and project cancellations followed. Relief arrived through support from rivals — including NVIDIA, which invested several billion dollars in the company. Huang emphasized that he holds no grudge, although in his conversation with Jim Cramer he said, “Intel wanted to kill us.”
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, under Andrew Grove’s leadership, Intel was already one of the largest companies while NVIDIA was only beginning its journey. According to Cramer, Grove did not respect Huang or his company.
At that time Intel sought to limit competitors through unfavorable licensing agreements. NVIDIA was also part of such contracts, initially making chips for Intel processors, but later shifted to its own designs. The dispute reached the courts, and NVIDIA prevailed — Intel paid $1.5 billion in license fees.
Now things are different: NVIDIA invested $5 billion in Intel. According to Huang, Intel will develop a microprocessor for them and create an additional model targeted at a new market.
