Schreier revealed that during his last briefing on the game’s progress, it had not yet reached its feature-locked state. “This is an incredibly massive and intricate title,” he explained. “At last word, it was not yet content complete. Developers were still wrapping up core elements, finalizing complex missions, and determining exactly what will feature in the final build.”
While he avoided confirming an absolute date, Schreier emphasized that the end-of-2026 window carries more weight than previous internal estimates. “It’s difficult to pinpoint with total certainty right now,” he added. “I doubt anyone at Rockstar could guarantee a November debut today, but it feels significantly more attainable than the original Fall 2025 target.”
For parent company Take-Two Interactive, the stakes are monumental. Schreier pointed out that the publisher’s market value is intrinsically tied to the success of this sequel, which is expected to launch before the close of the 2027 fiscal year. However, quality remains the ultimate priority over meeting a specific quarterly goal.
“With a project of this magnitude, the pressure is immense,” Schreier noted. “They cannot afford anything less than absolute perfection. Take-Two’s stock essentially fluctuates based on the health of this game—every time a delay is rumored, shares can dip by 10%.”
Ultimately, Rockstar is unlikely to launch GTA 6 in anything but an impeccable state. Schreier concluded: “They aren’t going to ship a compromised experience. If it comes down to October 2026 and the game isn’t 100% polished, I suspect they would choose to postpone it further rather than risk a flawed release.”
