God of War Creator Explains Why He Won’t Give Up Xbox Game Pass

God of War creator and industry veteran David Jaffe defended Xbox Game Pass despite the subscription price hike. In a video on his YouTube channel he outlined why he still believes the service offers strong value for players who frequently try new titles.

Under the video, Jaffe discussed the revised subscription pricing: Game Pass Ultimate rose from $20 to $30 per month. He admitted this is a notable increase, but said he won’t be cancelling the service.

“We all anticipated a price increase. Subscriptions go up over time. Yes, it’s a meaningful jump, but I’m not going to cancel.”

Jaffe argued that Game Pass saves money for active gamers. He compared the annual cost of buying the games he’s played or planned to play:

“All together that comes to around $700. Or you can pay for Game Pass — about $360 a year — and also get access to dozens of other games I’d likely play.”

He added that owning copies of games isn’t important to him.

“I understand many people want to own their games, and I respect that. But it doesn’t matter to me. I’ll finish Ninja Gaiden 4 and probably never return to it. Why keep the disc on a shelf?”

Jaffe noted that for anyone rotating through several titles each month, Game Pass remains “surprisingly cost-effective.”

“I listed about a dozen games — nearly one major new title per month. Call of Duty, Ninja Gaiden, and others. Yes, the price increase is annoying, but the value is still clear.”

At the end he emphasized that his endorsement isn’t meant to argue with viewers.

“I simply think it’s a great deal. I genuinely enjoy checking Game Pass to see what they add each day.”
